Niantic, the developer of Pokémon Go, revealed in 2021 that it is reversing at least one of the game's adjustments. The business increased the standard interaction range for Pokéstops and Gyms to 80 meters during the Covid-19 pandemic. Niantic increased the player's ire by changing the distance back to 40 meters in the first few days of August. The 80-meter distance will now remain in place indefinitely, and gamers can expect more alterations to be announced.

Criticism of the removal of COVID-19 changes has been met with niantic replies.

Niantic has removed its previous adjustments from the pandemic that allowed players to play from home or outside while maintaining social distance, including doubling the radius's size and expanding it from 40 meters to 80 meters. Now, in the midst of sizable protests, these changes have been reversed "as a test" in the US and NZ. The response from Niantic defends the removal of the feature by stating that "we want people to connect to real places in the real world, and to visit places that are worth exploring."
